Job description
Reporting to the Manager, Copper Projects, this Section Head leads geology within Maaden's Base Metals Exploration department, part of Exploration & Resource Development. The focus is copper, and the job is to find, rank and mature exploration targets until they become economically viable mineral resources. Mapping, drilling, sampling, logging and interpretation all run under your governance to protect technical integrity. Geological models improve as field, geophysical, geochemical and drilling data are brought together, which in turn raises resource confidence. Exploration campaigns need to be delivered safely, on schedule and within budget, with spending directed at the highest-value targets. Results, discoveries and recommendations go to senior management and technical review forums, and data quality is kept high for future resource evaluations. Building the geology team through coaching, mentoring and succession planning is part of the brief. The position is based at a field base in Saudi Arabia and calls for 10 to 12 years of geological exploration in mining, proven base metals or copper experience and a Bachelor's in Geology or Earth Sciences, with a Master's preferred.
