Job description
The Lead Engineer (Pipeline & Subsea Systems) is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary engineering team to execute medium to large-scale offshore oil and gas projects, covering all phases of subsea pipeline and cable design. The role includes supervising detailed design and optimization for pipelines and submarine cables, ensuring compliance with international codes (API, DNV) and company standards (SHELL DEPs, BP Guidelines, Saudi Aramco Standards, ADMA Standards). Responsibilities include design analyses such as wall thickness, thermal expansion, global buckling, stability assessments, cathodic protection, corrosion evaluations, route selection, and free span calculations. The Lead Engineer manages engineering deliverables, prepares technical specifications, guides procurement engineering, coordinates third-party subcontractors, monitors project schedules, risk, and change management, and interfaces with clients and vendors. The role requires mentoring and developing team members, standardizing procedures, and ensuring adherence to HSE and quality standards throughout all project activities.

- Lead engineering design and execution for subsea pipelines and submarine cable systems
- Supervise preparation of design basis, technical specifications, calculations, and analyses
- Coordinate with project engineering manager, planning, and cross-functional teams
- Manage third-party engineering subcontractors and oversee post-award engineering work
- Conduct contract reviews and establish technical document registers (TDRs)
- Ensure compliance with international codes, company standards, and client requirements
- Define engineering standards, procedures, and contribute to software evaluation
- Perform risk identification, change management, and provide technical guidance
- Mentor, train, and motivate assigned engineering team members
- Interface with clients, vendors, and quality/HSE departments for project delivery and compliance
Experience & skills
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering
- 12+ years of related Oil and Gas industry experience in EPC and consultancy roles
- 8+ years of offshore oil & gas experience, including lead engineer roles on upstream projects
- Proficient with international codes and standards (API, DNV) and company standards (SHELL DEPs, BP Guidelines, Saudi Aramco Standards, ADMA Standards)
- Hands-on experience with PIPESIM, CAESAR, and DNV software
- Strong knowledge of subsea pipeline and cable engineering design calculations, stability assessments, and procurement engineering
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and third-party subcontractors
- Strong project planning, scheduling, and risk management skills
- Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and standardize departmental procedures
