Job description
The Senior Instrument and Control Engineer role at Woodâs UAE Business Unit provides discipline support for a major onshore brownfield project in Sharjah. The position is a full-time office-based role responsible for supporting a portfolio of onshore capital projects delivered for an international client operator, covering engineering, project management services, EPC contract management, supply chain, construction and commissioning support. Projects span both greenfield and brownfield modifications and involve integrating low-carbon solutions to support energy transition and emissions-reduction objectives. The role includes coaching and mentoring responsibilities, developing training programs for graduates, delivering technical presentations and ensuring alignment with discipline-specific procedures. It requires technical competence and continuous professional development, awareness of regulatory frameworks, legislation changes and industry technology developments, and contributing discipline input to scope definition and execution. Responsibilities include deputizing for the Lead, supervising delegated tasks, meeting personal objectives, managing third-party suppliers, carrying out site surveys and responding to site queries, reviewing and checking design team work, ensuring schedule and budget adherence, preparing CTRs and man-hour estimates, attending meetings, supporting procurement and project engineering in equipment and materials procurement, and liaising with other disciplines on design, construction, fabrication and commissioning matters. The role requires a minimum of 10 years of oil & gas experience with onshore brownfield design work, thorough knowledge of instrument engineering design, strong awareness of relevant international codes and standards, experience with field instruments and valves including safety, shutdown and control valves, experience in technical bid evaluation and vendor package management, ICSS experience (PCS, SIS, FGS) preferably with Emerson Delta V, brownfield, FEED and EPC project experience, and experience with HAZOP, HAZID and SIL applications. It requires proficiency in SPI (INtools), flow meter and control valve sizing software such as InstruCalc and Fisher Valve Specification, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities and interpersonal/team-working skills.

Experience & skills
- Hold an engineering degree
- Have a minimum of 10 years of oil and gas industry experience with onshore brownfield design work
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of instrument engineering design
- Show thorough awareness of relevant international codes and standards
- Possess experience in field instruments and valves including safety valves, shutdown valves and control valves
- Have experience in technical bid evaluation and vendor package management
- Have experience with ICSS systems including PCS, SIS and FGS, preferably Emerson Delta V
- Demonstrate experience in brownfield jobs, FEED jobs and EPC jobs
- Possess experience in applying HAZOP, HAZID and SIL methodologies
- Display strong analytical and problem-solving skills
