Job description
First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) is hiring a Director for First Line Risk & Control within its International Banking Group, based in Abu Dhabi. The role supports the Regional Head in building a robust risk culture and control environment across all international operations. Responsibilities include identifying and mitigating financial and non-financial risks, implementing risk governance structures, and coordinating with both front office and support functions. The individual will oversee operational risk methodologies, internal control systems, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, particularly across APAC markets.

Key responsibilities
- Drive the development of a strong risk culture and control environment across international business lines
- Ensure the identification and mitigation of financial and non-financial risks
- Oversee production of management information to assess control effectiveness
- Collaborate with 2nd Line of Defense to embed the 3 Lines of Defense model
- Advise front office and conduct ad-hoc awareness and training sessions
- Assess and monitor the front-to-end control plan and define mitigation action plans
- Maintain governance structure through regular forums with business heads
- Strengthen control setup through investigation and remediation of operational risk incidents
- Manage risk reporting frameworks like KRI, RCSA, and CRI
- Coordinate validation processes for new products and strategies
- Support business in risk assessment during regulatory or conduct issues
- Participate in internal risk and governance forums
- Act as a role model for risk compliance and conduct standards
- Guide business units on risk-based decisions and policy adherence
- Ensure local regulatory guidelines are implemented effectively
- Act as SPOC for business tasks including DLP, BCP, compliance reviews, SOPs, and product approvals
- Undertake ad-hoc projects and responsibilities as assigned
Experience & skills
- 5-10 years experience in line 1 or 2 Non Financial Risk Roles in Global Markets or Wholesale Banking
- Bachelorās or Masterās Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, or Accounting
- Project Management certification is useful but not mandatory
- Good understanding of Global Markets & Wholesale Banking products
- Operational risk, internal control, business risk, or audit experience
- Strong knowledge of Fixed Income, Equity, Commodities, Loans, and Transaction Banking
- Excellent English communication skills; Mandarin is a plus
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities
- Familiarity with APAC regulatory landscape
- Proficiency in MS Office suite
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and multi-task
- High ethical standards and process orientation
- Team player with excellent communication and negotiation skills
