Job description
Wells drilled by Crescent Petroleum across exploration, appraisal and development depend on subsurface inputs that are right before the bit goes in, and this Sharjah position owns those inputs. Offset and analogue well reviews come first, backed by careful QA/QC of logs, DDRs, EOWRs, pressure tests and LWD/WL data. Historical NPT events are analysed for geohazards and root causes, then turned into recommendations for future well programmes. Trajectory design happens in Petrel, where deviated and horizontal wells are planned to maximise reservoir exposure while respecting anti-collision, PPFG and geohazard constraints. Pre-drill and real-time PPFG models set safe mud weight windows and inform casing seats, liner points and section TDs. During drilling, you provide real-time geological steering and decision support to the drilling and completions teams. Documentation matters too, including the Statement of Requirements (SoR), input to the Basis of Design (BoD) and End-of-Well Reports with NPT root-cause analysis. LWD, wireline, mudlogging and coring services are procured and quality checked under your oversight, and junior staff look to you for mentoring. Expect to need 15 years of industry experience, ideally with fractured carbonate reservoirs, and Middle East or Iraq exposure will help.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Lead systematic reviews of offset and analogue wells
- Run QA/QC on subsurface and drilling datasets, including logs, DDRs, EOWRs, pressure tests and LWD/WL data
- Analyse historical NPT events to identify geohazards and root causes and convert lessons into technical recommendations
- Evaluate data gaps for structural reinterpretation or new data acquisition
- Build and manage Petrel geological models for operational deliverables
- Design and optimise deviated and horizontal trajectories that integrate structural, stratigraphic and geomechanical uncertainty
- Align well designs with LWD/WL programmes, BHA/RSS capabilities and completion requirements
- Perform anti-collision analysis within PPFG and geohazard constraints
- Develop and calibrate pre-drill and real-time PPFG models to set safe mud weight windows
- Recommend casing seats, liner points and section TDs based on PPFG analysis
- Prepare the Statement of Requirements and contribute to the Basis of Design
- Provide real-time geological steering and decision support during drilling
- Deliver End-of-Well Reports with NPT root-cause analysis
- Oversee procurement and QA/QC of LWD, wireline, mudlogging and coring services
- Interpret gas ratios, cuttings, XRD/XRF and isotope data to refine reservoir and lithostratigraphic models
- Mentor junior staff and promote HSSE standards across geological operations
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree in Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline, with an MSc or PhD preferred
- Bring at least 15 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with an international operator
- Demonstrate exposure to fractured carbonate reservoirs
- Show strong experience in well planning, PPFG modelling and operational geology
- Use Petrel and geological operations workflows proficiently
- Offer Middle East and Iraq experience, which is an advantage
- Collaborate effectively across subsurface, drilling and completions disciplines and with service providers
