Job description
HSW Director (Health, Safety and Wellbeing) responsible for leading the overall health, safety and wellbeing strategy for a major construction and infrastructure programme in a remote and challenging environment in Umluj, Saudi Arabia. The role involves shaping the built environment through delivery excellence, innovation, and an uncompromising commitment to Health, Safety and Wellbeing across all stages of delivery. The position requires leading the HSW vision and strategy aligned with Mace global HSW standards and client expectations, championing behaviour based safety culture across multidisciplinary teams and supply chain partners, and providing leadership to site-based HSW teams. The role includes driving continuous improvement, identifying risks early, implementing innovative safety solutions suitable for remote environments, and ensuring robust assurance, governance, and reporting across the programme. The HSW Director engages with senior stakeholders including client leadership, contractors, and project leadership teams to influence decision making and manage hazards effectively. Responsibilities include leading incident investigations, conducting root cause analysis, implementing lessons learned and corrective actions, supporting workforce wellbeing initiatives, and managing remote location challenges including fatigue, isolation, heat, logistics, and extreme environments. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to embed safety into planning, design, logistics, and execution, drives communication and engagement initiatives, and translates business strategy into local operational plans delivering to time, quality, and budget. The position requires expertise in risk management, assurance strategies, audit strategies, HSW legislation, sustainability, stakeholder engagement, ISO 45001 standards, and major project governance across large-scale construction and infrastructure programmes in international and Middle East environments.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the overall Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) vision and strategy for the programme ensuring alignment with global HSW standards, client expectations, and major construction programme objectives
- Champion behaviour based safety culture across multidisciplinary teams and supply chain partners while embedding best practice safety standards across all project phases
- Provide leadership and oversight to site-based HSW teams ensuring robust safety assurance, governance frameworks, reporting standards, and compliance across the programme
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying risks early, delivering targeted interventions, and implementing innovative safety solutions suitable for remote environments
- Engage with senior stakeholders including client leadership, contractors, and project leadership teams to influence decision-making and manage hazards effectively
- Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, implement lessons learned, and ensure corrective actions are implemented across project operations

Experience & skills
- Hold professional Health Safety and Wellbeing qualifications including NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent with Chartered status desirable
- Demonstrate experience delivering international and Middle East large-scale construction and infrastructure programmes
- Possess proven expertise in risk management, safety assurance, and audit strategies within major organizations
- Demonstrate strong leadership experience managing HSW teams, competency assessment, and career development programs
- Possess deep knowledge of HSW legislation, sustainability practices, and stakeholder engagement within construction environments
- Demonstrate significant senior leadership experience in HSW across major construction or infrastructure programmes
- Demonstrate proven ability to lead safety operations in remote, logistically complex, or high-risk environments
- Possess strong knowledge of international HSW standards including ISO 45001 and major project governance frameworks
