Job description
The Cost Engineer will play a critical role in DP Worldâs Commercial Department by preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders for ship and rig repairs. The role involves analyzing client specifications, coordinating with production, procurement, and subcontractors, and ensuring that bids are aligned with both technical and financial requirements. The engineer will also conduct vessel inspections, liaise with client representatives, and prepare detailed tender documents including financial summaries for management approval. This role requires marine or mechanical engineering expertise combined with strong commercial acumen in shipyard operations.

Key responsibilities
- Implement day-to-day operations for the Commercial Department according to standards.
- Review client specifications and clarify requirements as needed.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, production, and procurement on specialized works and materials.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and final bid documents for all vessel types.
- Inspect vessels and discuss technical/commercial details with ownersâ representatives.
- Develop financial summaries of tenders for management approval.
- Update all required information on project 'A' forms before handover.
- Attend to tender clarifications and additional quotations until vessel arrival.
- Handover complete project files with key highlights to the project execution team.
- Prepare and submit competitive tenders ensuring compliance with client requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by Estimating Manager/Assistant Manager.
Experience & skills
- Degree/Diploma in Marine, Mechanical or Naval Architecture, or certified Sea-going Engineer qualification.
- 3â5 yearsâ experience in shipyard operations with at least 2 years in a similar role.
- Experience with ship and rig repair projects in a reputable shipyard.
- Knowledge of ship repair technical terms, project management, and contract negotiation.
- Ability to liaise effectively with clients and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of estimating processes in a marine engineering context.
