Job description
The Senior Completions Specialist (Fabrication) at McDermott in Doha, Qatar, is responsible for leading and supervising all aspects of mechanical completion activities for offshore O&G fabrication projects. The specialist reviews project scopes, requests qualified engineers and supervisors, coordinates resources including manpower, equipment, tools, and consumables, and prepares execution plans and strategies for mechanical completion. They manage inspection and test records through PIMS, allocate budgets and person-hours, define system limits, and support engineering policies and yard procedures. The role involves close coordination with HSE Officers for task risk assessments, Fabrication Coordinators, EPC contractors, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project handover. The position provides guidance to less experienced colleagues, disseminates best practices, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives within the Completions (Fab) discipline.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Review project-specific Scope of Work and relevant specifications for Mechanical Completion execution.
- Request qualified engineers and supervisors to support Mechanical Completion activities.
- Request and coordinate adequate equipment, tools, and consumables for Mechanical Completion operations.
- Coordinate with Fabrication Coordinator on schedules and assess potential cost impacts.
- Work with HSE Officers to implement Task Risk Assessments for Mechanical Completion tasks.
- Request and allocate manpower, materials, and procedures necessary for Mechanical Completion.
- Prepare Mechanical Completion Inspection and Test Records within PIMS system.
- Supervise discipline engineers and oversee Mechanical Completion execution on site.
- Develop execution plans and strategies for Mechanical Completion activities.
- Prepare general procedures for implementing Mechanical Completion-related activities.
- Allocate budget and estimate person-hours for Mechanical Completion-related tasks.
- Define system limits and prepare Mechanical Completion Management System documentation.
- Support and disseminate engineering policies and yard procedures and contribute to improvements.
- Provide historical project data and input for bid preparation and engineering support.
- Deliver and attend training sessions, providing feedback and continuous improvement recommendations.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in Hookup and Commissioning activities for offshore O&G projects.
- Experience handling PIMS completion management system, punch list management, preservation management, and handover processes.
- Exposure to coordination among EPC, client, vendor, subcontractors, and fabrication teams to achieve system completion and project handover.
- High standard of safe working practices, quality, and productivity.
- Compliance with code of business conduct.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to supervise teams and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.
- Experience in offshore fabrication projects and offshore commissioning processes.
