Job description
The Data Center Operations Engineer ā HV/MV at AWS will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating the world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure of AWS data centers. Responsibilities include supporting and troubleshooting critical equipment such as UPSs, switchgear, ATSs, diesel generators, HVAC systems, chillers, VFDs, and transformers. The role demands comprehensive oversight of facility operations, safety adherence, daily operational checks, and root cause analysis of failures. Engineers will work rotational 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends, and must respond to emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation. The candidate must have a strong foundation in electrical engineering with hands-on experience in high and medium voltage systems, and preferably, mechanical systems and control platforms such as BMS and EPMS. This role involves frequent interaction with contractors, execution of maintenance protocols, and fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and operational excellence in line with AWS global standards.

Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment in data centers
- Support and troubleshoot HV/MV systems and infrastructure components
- Ensure compliance with AWS safety standards and remediate risks
- Take operational readings and maintain daily logs
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
- Lead safety and innovation initiatives to optimize facility operations
- Supervise contractors during servicing and preventive maintenance
- Attend to emergency call-outs as part of a rotational on-call duty
- Participate in the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of equipment
Experience & skills
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with critical HV and MV electrical equipment
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC and controls
- Understanding of BMS and EPMS control systems
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends
- Physical ability to work at heights, in noisy environments, and in outdoor conditions
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
