Job description
The Data Governance Senior Lead Specialist is responsible for defining, implementing, and sustaining enterprise-level data governance strategies to enhance data quality, compliance, and operational efficiency. This position plays a critical role in aligning governance frameworks with business and regulatory objectives, ensuring that data across the organization is secure, accurate, and effectively leveraged. The specialist will collaborate with leadership, IT, and data owners to enforce standards around data quality, access, and traceability—establishing a scalable governance environment capable of supporting future digital and regulatory growth initiatives.

Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor data governance strategies and frameworks aligned with organizational objectives.
- Assess existing governance practices, identify gaps, and design improvements for data management, access, and quality control.
- Design and maintain governance policies and workflows across data domains including lineage, security, and monetization.
- Define and institutionalize data ownership roles and accountability structures across departments.
- Collaborate with senior management to communicate project progress, metrics, and governance KPIs.
- Develop and enforce governance templates, SLAs, and benchmarks for data policies, communications, and retention schedules.
- Lead the development of a flexible data architecture to support compliance, scalability, and evolving business needs.
- Oversee the governance calendar to ensure timely execution of reviews, committee meetings, and progress updates.
- Track and resolve data issues and escalations related to access, cataloging, and quality assurance.
- Evaluate ROI of data governance initiatives and drive data-driven decision-making improvements.
- Identify and adopt global best practices and emerging data governance trends relevant to the organization.
- Prepare periodic governance reports and dashboards for senior leadership and the Data Management Committee.
- Ensure alignment between IT, data owners, and compliance teams for seamless governance enforcement.
- Promote a culture of data stewardship across business functions through guidance, training, and advocacy.
- Contribute to operational excellence by streamlining processes, enhancing documentation, and driving efficiency improvements.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline (Postgraduate preferred).
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, or information security.
- Strong understanding of governance domains including data access, quality, lineage, security, and compliance.
- Hands-on experience implementing enterprise data governance tools such as Collibra, Informatica, or Alation.
- Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks such as ISO 27001, NDMO, GDPR, and other privacy standards.
- Certifications such as CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, CRISC, CISA, CISM, PMP, or privacy credentials (CIPP/E, CIPM, FIP).
- Experience designing SLAs, policies, and reporting structures for governance programs.
- Proficiency in data architecture and metadata management concepts.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Proven track record in cross-functional collaboration and issue resolution within large organizations.
- Fluency in English (Arabic preferred).
