Job description
The Legal Counsel at Mamo will play a pivotal role in supporting the legal, regulatory, and governance functions of a fast-paced fintech startup based in Dubai. This mid-level position is responsible for managing commercial contracts from end-to-end, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements such as NDAs, SaaS/MSAs, and supplier contracts. The role includes ownership of corporate governance activities such as preparing board packs, drafting resolutions, and handling filings in the UAE and relevant jurisdictions. As a point of contact across the business, the Legal Counsel will triage urgent legal requests, support commercial negotiations, assist with licensing updates and regulatory communications, and coordinate with external counsel. The ideal candidate will have 3ā5 years of legal experience with strong UAE and GCC exposure, particularly in fintech and digital payments. The role requires excellent communication, high proficiency in tech tools, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under time pressure, all within a startup environment that values autonomy and process improvement.

Key responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate merchant, partner, supplier agreements, NDAs, SaaS/MSAs, and other commercial contracts
- Prepare and circulate board packs, draft minutes and resolutions, and manage filings in UAE and relevant free zones
- Triage and respond to urgent legal review requests to keep business operations unblocked
- Support commercial negotiations by joining calls, marking up redlines, and communicating pragmatic legal positions
- Assist with light regulatory work including licensing updates and regulator correspondence
- Maintain and update contract templates, clause libraries, and approval/signature flows
- Coordinate with external counsel on discrete matters and ensure actionable business advice
- Assist with disputes, debt recovery, and regulatory complaints, ensuring timely and strategic responses
Experience & skills
- 3ā5 years of legal experience, with significant exposure to UAE legal matters
- Experience working in-house, preferably within a fintech startup or similar regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of UAE and GCC regulatory frameworks for fintech and digital payments
- Highly proficient in Google Docs, Sheets, redlining, formatting, and collaboration tools like Slack
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure with accuracy and speed
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident in handling contracts, corporate governance tasks, and commercial legal matters
