Job description
GEMS Founders School in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, is seeking a dynamic Head of Primary to lead and manage the primary phase of its growing British curriculum school. This role is ideal for an educational leader committed to academic excellence, innovation, and sustainability. The successful candidate will drive the strategic vision of the school and foster a culture of high achievement while ensuring the effective delivery of the National Curriculum for England from FS1 to Year 9. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will collaborate closely with the Principal and other school leaders to support a culture of professional development, high standards of teaching, and student outcomes aligned with the schoolâs sustainability and global citizenship ethos.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the Primary phase with a strategic focus on curriculum delivery, teacher development, and student achievement.
- Implement the schoolâs vision and align practices with GEMS Educationâs core values and standards of excellence.
- Conduct lesson observations and provide feedback to support staff performance and growth.
- Develop minimum learning outcomes and set benchmarks for core subjects.
- Ensure compliance with GEMS and UAE educational regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Mentor and guide teaching staff to meet individual and school-wide goals.
- Foster collaboration between teachers and departments for holistic student development.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Lead change management initiatives and drive innovation in teaching and learning.
- Engage with parents, guardians, and the wider school community to enhance stakeholder involvement.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree in Education or related field; PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification required.
- Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, with experience in a leadership role (SLT).
- Experience working in a reputable British curriculum school environment.
- Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage school improvement plans and staff development programs.
- Knowledge of sustainable education practices and global citizenship education is a plus.
- Experience in performance appraisal, policy compliance, and academic benchmarking.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Willingness to commit beyond standard working hours to meet school objectives.
