Job description
The General Mechanical Technician II is responsible for carrying out skilled maintenance and repair activities on a wide range of rotating and stationary mechanical equipment within upstream oil and gas or petrochemical industry environments. The role includes maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines, turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, desalination units, cranes, hoists, turbo expanders, pig launchers, lifeboats, and workshop machines. The technician ensures operational reliability and safety of mechanical systems by performing corrective and preventive maintenance tasks on critical industrial equipment. The position requires hands-on mechanical expertise in maintaining complex rotating machinery and static equipment used in oil and gas production and petrochemical operations. The role supports continuous plant operations by minimizing equipment downtime through timely repair and maintenance interventions. The technician works in industrial environments where adherence to safety procedures, equipment standards, and operational reliability is essential to maintaining production efficiency and asset integrity.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair of rotating equipment including diesel engines, turbines, pumps, compressors, and turbo expanders
- Conduct maintenance and troubleshooting of stationary equipment such as valves, desalination units, and pig launchers
- Maintain and repair industrial lifting and support equipment including cranes, hoists, and lifeboats
- Carry out workshop machinery maintenance and mechanical repair activities to ensure operational readiness
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on oil and gas and petrochemical plant equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform troubleshooting on industrial equipment to minimize downtime
- Ensure safe and reliable operation of mechanical systems in compliance with industry standards
- Support maintenance operations in upstream oil and gas or petrochemical production environments
Experience & skills
- Hold completion of Secondary (12 years) education with additional 2 years full-time mechanical trade training equivalent to City & Guilds certification
- Demonstrate minimum 5 years of working experience in maintenance of upstream oil and gas or petrochemical industry equipment
- Demonstrate hands-on experience in maintenance of rotating and stationary mechanical equipment
- Demonstrate ability to perform mechanical repair and troubleshooting on industrial equipment
- Demonstrate knowledge of oil and gas or petrochemical plant maintenance operations
- Demonstrate ability to work safely in industrial maintenance environments
- Demonstrate familiarity with workshop machinery and mechanical systems maintenance
- Demonstrate experience in preventive and corrective maintenance procedures for industrial equipment
