Job description
Diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures run through this role as a licensed independent practitioner, covering everything from medication preparation to documentation in line with state and federal regulations. You'll oversee daily operations of the NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanners, from patient schedules and equipment maintenance to quality assessment. Images and medical history get analyzed and synthesized together, with findings communicated directly to the appropriate physician. Independent judgment during exams separates normal findings from pathologic ones, using cognitive NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT skills built on anatomical and diagnostic knowledge. Patient safety and comfort stay a constant priority throughout, with care problems addressed and resolved as they come up. Venepuncture, intravenous access, and the identification, preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and medications all fall under this role as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner. ALARA principles get applied throughout to keep radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable for patients, self and others. Image quality gets evaluated technically, with proper identification recorded and archival storage of digital data maintained. Education runs both ways here, from providing in-service training to colleagues to responding to emergencies and monitoring students and other health care providers.
