Job description
The Senior Manager ā Microgrids and Battery Storage at The Red Sea Utility Company (RSUC) provides expert guidance and strategic insights on microgrids and battery storage solutions across the organization, acting as the center of expertise within Technical Services. The role develops functional strategies and roadmaps for microgrids and BESS aligned with RSUCās strategic intent and the transition to cleaner energy with a focus on renewables; conducts market research to analyze industry trends, technological innovations, and policy developments; and performs feasibility studies and site assessments to identify opportunities for deployment and optimization. Responsibilities include designing microgrid systems that integrate renewable energy sources, energy storage, and grid interconnection to maximize efficiency and reliability; performing modeling and simulation to evaluate performance, economic viability, savings, and environmental benefits; evaluating battery storage technologies for microgrid applications; designing BESS for peak shaving, load shifting, and grid stabilization while optimizing battery lifespan and performance; and developing control strategies and algorithms for battery management and energy dispatch. The role leads project teams to investigate, develop, and implement energy-related customer improvements with emphasis on BESS and renewable-based microgrids; assesses potential microgrid applications arising in the sales process; supports commissioning by writing specifications and test plans, driving test execution, and documenting results; and undertakes technical and commercial analysis to understand operational reliability and economic implications. The position conducts research on enhancements in microgrid and battery storage techniques for potential adoption, collaborates with customers, internal teams, and OEMs to optimize designs through workshops and modeling, and provides consultancy services to external organizations or ministries requiring support on microgrids and battery storage. Accountabilities include adhering to policies, systems, procedures, standards, and documentation requirements; maintaining logs and MIS/statistical reports for senior management; identifying and mitigating risks associated with microgrids and storage in line with ERM policy; applying safety, quality, and environmental management procedures; ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental norms when proposing and setting up facilities; collaborating with government agencies, industry associations, research institutions, and vendors; and driving continuous improvement, cost reduction, productivity improvement, and thought leadership through whitepapers and industry reports.

- Provide consultancy services to organizations or ministries on microgrids and battery storage at kingdom, regional, or global level.
- Maintain policy adherence, functional logs, documentation, and MIS/statistical reporting for developed solutions.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with microgrids and storage in accordance with ERM policy and guidelines.
- Apply safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and ensure compliance when proposing and setting up facilities.
- Build partnerships with government agencies, industry associations, research institutions, and vendors to drive collaborative initiatives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for system, process, and practice enhancements and developing thought leadership content.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās or Masterās degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 8ā12 years of experience in energy consulting, microgrids, battery storage, or related utility services, preferably in off-grid applications.
- Good understanding of microgrids, battery storage, and energy policies, regulations, and market dynamics at local, regional, and international levels.
- Proficiency in technologies related to microgrids and battery storage, including design, modeling/simulation, controls, commissioning, and performance evaluation.
- Ability to perform technical and commercial analyses, produce specifications and test plans, and lead cross-functional project teams.
- Experience with risk identification and mitigation aligned to ERM policies and adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with customers, OEMs, government agencies, industry associations, and research institutions, including documentation and MIS reporting.
