Job description
The Greenhouse Gas Management and Decarbonization Specialist at Saudi Aramco will lead and oversee corporate GHG emissions management and decarbonization initiatives, providing technical expertise to support Company strategies, policies, and sustainability goals. The role includes development and implementation of the Corporate GHG Protocol, guidance on methane emissions reduction, assessment and deployment of innovative environmental technologies, and oversight of corporate sustainability reporting. The specialist will support facility operations in minimizing GHG emissions, review project designs and decarbonization impact assessments, and participate in international climate change programs. Responsibilities also include mentoring young engineers, engaging with government and international entities on GHG reporting, and updating engineering standards and procedures in alignment with Saudi Aramco's decarbonization roadmap. Candidates are expected to have deep knowledge of WRI GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1, IPIECA/API/OGP guidelines, and experience with both mandatory and voluntary reporting programs, ensuring accurate corporate-level emissions accounting, reporting, and assurance.

Key responsibilities
- Provide high-level consultations to support Saudi Aramco strategies, policies, and decisions in GHG management and decarbonization across operations.
- Oversee development and implementation of the Corporate GHG Protocol and lead research initiatives for new technologies aimed at GHG reduction, including methane management.
- Support the professional development of young Saudi engineers in environmental assessment, management, and decarbonization technologies.
- Identify and evaluate GHG reduction opportunities and develop business goals aligned with company sustainability targets and net zero ambitions by 2050.
- Evaluate climate change and GHG emissions pathways and energy outlooks, providing insights to inform corporate strategy and operations.
- Perform research tasks of high technical complexity, develop and implement innovative technical solutions, and assess new environmental technologies for application across Saudi Aramco operations.
- Engage with government, international entities, and industry bodies regarding climate change and GHG reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with standards and voluntary programs.
- Support facility operations in GHG minimization efforts, conduct environmental audits, update engineering standards and procedures, and review project designs for decarbonization impact.
- Lead corporate initiatives such as Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) assessments, methane programs, and integration of decarbonization measures into operational and strategic planning.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Science; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in GHG management, including at least 5 years in GHG accounting, reporting, and assurance within the Energy or Oil & Gas sector.
- Proficiency with WRI GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1, and IPIECA/API/OGP guidelines for greenhouse gas reporting.
- Experience with participation in mandatory or voluntary GHG reporting programs such as EU ETS, US EPA GHGRP, or CDP.
- Proven experience in establishing and managing corporate-level GHG emissions management programs and supporting corporate sustainability reporting.
- Ability to conduct environmental audits, review project designs, and implement decarbonization initiatives across large-scale operations.
- Excellent English communication skills for producing technical reports and presentations.
- Experience in Saudi Arabia highly desirable.
- Professional certifications such as Fundamentals of Engineering, Professional Engineering, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent highly desirable.
- Participation in international or national climate change and GHG committees (e.g., IPCC, UNFCCC) and related publications is desirable.
