Job description
The Chief Field Engineer for Wood, working on ADNOC projects in Abu Dhabi, is responsible for leading constructability and construction engineering efforts for large-scale oil, gas, and new energy projects. Based in Habshan, this role involves overseeing conversion of engineering designs into executable construction work packs, ensuring all construction activities adhere to required technical standards, quality, and safety regulations. The position requires providing advanced discipline expertise, leading constructability reviews, managing subcontractors, and coordinating with on-site departments to ensure seamless execution of project phases from initiation to commissioning and start-up. The Chief Field Engineer will develop and implement Construction and Implementation Plans, define work packaging strategies, and oversee procurement and construction sequencing. The role also includes ensuring compliance with ADNOCās safety and quality requirements, maintaining cost-effective control of equipment and materials, and providing technical guidance throughout construction. The incumbent acts as the primary interface between engineering, construction, and client teams, resolving technical issues, ensuring timely delivery of construction deliverables, and promoting best practices for productivity and safety. This role demands extensive experience within oil and gas operations or capital project delivery, strong leadership capabilities, and a solid command of technical documentation and regulatory standards in the UAE. Candidates must be qualified to obtain CICPA and UAE work visa approvals and be willing to travel extensively to onshore project sites.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the constructability team and oversee the conversion of engineering designs into construction work packs.
- Act as the approver for construction work packs, ensuring detailed narratives and activity breakdowns are in place.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive Construction and Implementation Plans aligned with project objectives.
- Develop work packaging and subcontracting strategies to optimize delivery, cost, and schedule performance.
- Provide constructability input during the engineering phase to reduce costs, improve safety, and enhance productivity.
- Contribute advanced discipline expertise to improve work methods and project processes.
- Act as the escalation point for constructability issues during scope surveys and engineering phases.
- Ensure construction deliverables are produced and approved in compliance with required technical standards.
- Provide technical support for construction planning, design interpretation, and resolution of design conflicts.
- Ensure all plant and equipment are fully certified and managed cost-effectively.
- Coordinate sub-contractor personnel, materials, equipment, and services to ensure readiness for construction.
- React to scope changes, manage documentation, and initiate change management procedures when required.
- Inspect installation quality and ensure verification processes are completed to specification.
- Participate in audits and incident investigations to identify lessons learned and improve practices.
- Mentor and manage junior construction engineering staff, supporting career development and technical growth.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with contract requirements and align with project schedules.
- Act as the primary point of contact for client and internal business interfaces on construction matters.
- Support overall project safety management and quality assurance.
- Seek opportunities for further business development with ADNOC and related clients.
Experience & skills
- Engineering degree with a minimum of 15 yearsā experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
- Experience working with major oil and gas operating companies or EPC/PMC contractors.
- Proven record of managing constructability and commissioning processes for complex projects.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary construction teams and oversee multiple work fronts.
- Willingness to travel extensively and flexibility to adjust to project site requirements.
- Eligibility for CICPA clearance and UAE work visa.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction planning, safety standards, and commissioning protocols.
- Knowledge of ADNOC and UAE regulatory compliance standards.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and coordination skills across engineering and construction disciplines.
