Job description
The Assistant Manager, Project Engineering is responsible for delivering technical support across all phases of power generation, transmission, and distribution projects, focusing on engineering, procurement, installation, pre-commissioning, and handover deliverables. The role ensures seamless coordination among project interfaces and disciplines, driving timely, cost-effective, and compliant design delivery. Acting as a potential delegate for the Project Manager, the position involves managing projects under stringent regulatory approvals, overseeing budgets, schedules, and contractual obligations, analyzing complex project challenges, and leading effective solutions. The role requires mastery-level proficiency across all project lifecycle stages, familiarity with GCOC requirements, and adherence to legal frameworks for contractual scopes.

Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive technical support across all project phases, including Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Pre-Commissioning, and handover deliverables.
- Ensure coordination among project interfaces and disciplines to achieve timely, cost-effective, and compliant project execution.
- Act as the Project Managerβs delegate during periods of absence, maintaining continuity of project leadership and decision-making.
- Manage projects subject to stringent government regulatory approvals, ensuring compliance and timely approvals.
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and contractual obligations, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Analyze complex project challenges and lead development of effective engineering and management solutions.
- Apply mastery-level project management skills across all lifecycle stages including feasibility studies, concept development, engineering definition, construction, operational readiness, commissioning, and project close-out.
- Ensure compliance with GCOC requirements and legal frameworks governing project contractual scopes.
- Facilitate effective communication, reporting, presentations, and team-building activities, including meetings management.
Experience & skills
- Minimum 12 years of experience in project engineering and design development within power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Experience at the electrical engineering discipline head level preferred.
- Strong understanding of power systems, including grid integration, system interfaces, and technical dependencies.
- Experience in renewable energy projects is an added advantage.
- Proven experience managing power projects for clients or asset owners, preferably in the Middle East region.
- Ability to manage projects under stringent government regulatory approvals.
- Membership in a recognized project management institution is advantageous.
- Mastery-level proficiency in all project management lifecycle stages.
- Familiarity with GCOC requirements and legal framework for managing contractual scopes of work.
- Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong capability in managing project budgets, schedules, and contractual obligations.
- Excellent communication, reporting, presentation, and team-building skills.
