Job description
Crushers, SAG mills, ball mills, conveyors and pipe racks all have to go in safely and to specification at the Ar Rjum gold processing plant, and this Bechtel supervisor leads the structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) crews who install them. Structural steel erection covers receiving, laydown, pre-assembly, sequencing, temporary stability and survey checks for columns, beams, platforms and equipment supports. Static and rotating equipment, from screens and feeders to compressors, pressure vessels and gearboxes, is installed and aligned to OEM requirements. Piping work runs from material control and spool installation through fit-up, welding, testing, flushing and reinstatement, all against isometrics and P&IDs. Heavy lifts using crawler and mobile cranes, strand jacks, hydraulic gantries and SPMTs follow approved lift plans. HVAC installation and commissioning, including AHUs, FCUs, ductwork and chilled water piping, also fall within scope. Quality controls such as ITPs, hold points, NDE, NCRs and punch lists are enforced, and Permit-to-Work, LOTO, work-at-height and confined-space rules apply on every job. Subcontractor productivity, look-ahead plans and daily reporting keep work fronts open and milestones on track. A mechanical engineering degree with 8 to 10 years of experience, or 12 to 14 years without one, is required, along with the fitness to work at height in hot conditions.
