Job description
The Senior Video Editor – Wasl Channel is a key member of the content and production team, responsible for editing short documentaries, long-form videos, and social media content in a fast-paced environment that demands both creative judgment and technical expertise. The role focuses on shaping storytelling, pacing, and narrative flow by building narrative structures from scratch when required or following provided editorial frameworks, proposing and applying story angles, narrative pacing, and scene sequencing, and transforming raw footage into cohesive, impactful stories. The position includes adapting long-form content into short-form videos suitable for social platforms, demonstrating understanding of social media pacing, formats, and audience behavior, and ensuring consistency between long-form storytelling and short-form outputs. The Senior Editor receives editing briefs primarily from the Head of Production, collaborates when needed with content team members such as writers and researchers, attends meetings directly related to assigned edits, and manages multiple edits simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines. From a technical execution perspective, the role requires confident use of professional editing tools including Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro, performing color correction and color grading, ensuring clean audio, and maintaining overall technical quality. Final editorial approval is provided by the Channel Lead, positioning the Senior Editor as a central creative and technical contributor within Wasl Channel’s production workflow.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end editing process for short documentaries by reviewing raw footage, identifying compelling narrative elements, constructing story arcs, refining scene sequencing, and shaping narrative pacing to deliver cohesive, impactful visual stories aligned with the creative vision.
- Edit long-form video content by building narrative structures from scratch when required or following provided editorial frameworks, ensuring strong storytelling flow, logical progression, emotional engagement, and alignment with Wasl Channel’s content standards.
- Develop and propose story angles, narrative pacing strategies, and scene sequencing approaches to enhance visual storytelling, elevate production value, and ensure that each project reflects strong editorial judgment and clarity of message.
- Adapt long-form videos into short-form social media content by understanding platform-specific pacing, formats, and audience behavior, maintaining consistency between long-form storytelling and short-form outputs while optimizing engagement and clarity.
- Receive and interpret detailed editing briefs from the Head of Production, clarify creative expectations, incorporate structured feedback, and ensure final outputs meet editorial objectives prior to submission for final approval by the Channel Lead.
- Collaborate effectively with writers and researchers when required to align narrative direction, verify contextual accuracy, and ensure that storytelling decisions support the overall content strategy.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment by prioritizing tasks, meeting tight deadlines, attending only meetings directly related to assigned edits, and ensuring timely delivery without compromising technical or editorial quality.
- Execute advanced technical finishing by working confidently in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro, performing precise color correction and color grading, ensuring clean audio through careful audio editing, and maintaining overall technical quality control standards across all deliverables.
Experience & skills
- Demonstrate proven experience as a Senior Editor or in a similar role with a strong portfolio of short documentaries, long-form videos, and social media content that reflects advanced storytelling and editorial judgment.
- Exhibit exceptional storytelling ability with a refined sense of rhythm, narrative pacing, and scene sequencing, including the capability to build narrative structures from scratch or work within structured editorial frameworks.
- Show high-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro, with hands-on expertise in professional video editing workflows, timeline management, multi-format exports, and technical quality control.
- Possess solid experience in color correction and color grading techniques to ensure visual consistency, mood alignment, and broadcast-quality finishing across documentary and long-form productions.
- Demonstrate strong audio editing capability, ensuring clean audio, balanced sound levels, and overall technical polish that meets professional production standards.
- Provide evidence of experience editing Arabic content, with Arabic as the primary language, ensuring linguistic precision, cultural relevance, and accurate narrative flow in all video outputs.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently with strong ownership of assigned edits while also collaborating effectively with the Head of Production, writers, and researchers in a structured production workflow.
- Exhibit the capacity to handle feedback and revisions efficiently, manage multiple concurrent editing assignments under tight deadlines, and consistently deliver technically sound and creatively compelling content in a fast-paced environment.
