Job description
The Protection Engineer role within Tractebel’s Transmission & Distribution department is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and standards-compliant operation of electrical protection systems in accordance with Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) requirements. The role focuses on reviewing protection system designs, relay lists, relay setting calculations, and logic diagrams, including Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Protection & Metering Diagrams (PMD), and Block Logic Diagrams (BLD). The position involves coordination with CRP builders, contractors, and internal OETC protection staff, representing OETC during protection testing activities, and supporting approval processes. The role contributes to grid reliability by ensuring compliance with OETC protection philosophies, technical standards, and regulatory requirements across transmission and distribution projects, while operating within Tractebel’s engineering consultancy environment under the ENGIE Group.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Review CT and VT design requirements and perform sizing calculation reviews in line with approved Single Line Diagrams
- Review Protection & Metering Diagrams (PMD) to ensure compliance with OETC standards and protection philosophy
- Review Block Logic Diagrams (BLD) for alignment with approved protection schemes
- Review relay lists to ensure compliance with OETC documentation and standards
- Coordinate with CRP builders and review scheme drawings to ensure requirements are met
- Review relay setting calculations for accuracy and compliance
- Represent OETC during protection testing activities and witness testing execution
- Coordinate with OETC protection staff to obtain approvals and support testing activities
- Ensure protection system designs support safe and reliable transmission and distribution system operation
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in protection engineering
- Demonstrate experience reviewing protection system designs and relay settings
- Maintain strong knowledge of OETC standards and protection philosophies
- Show experience coordinating with contractors, CRP builders, and multiple stakeholders
- Previous OETC approval experience is highly preferred
