Job description
The Senior Technical Engineer - Infrastructure Platforms (Database) at Emirates in Dubai is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise database infrastructure solutions that align with corporate business and IT strategies. The role involves ensuring system availability, capacity, continuity, security, performance, and reliability while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The engineer develops architecture and solution designs, implements monitoring for incidents, guides project managers and technology teams, resolves incidents, manages problems and changes, maintains high-quality documentation, manages end-of-life replacements, and translates specifications into error-free programs. This role emphasizes engineering scalable, resilient, and high-performance database platforms, implementing DBaaS principles, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, service catalog management, cloud integration, auto-healing, and database optimization while supporting enterprise applications and workloads.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Develop robust IT solutions that meet customer requirements and conform to corporate and technical standards
- Ensure solution architectures meet service level requirements including availability, capacity, continuity, security, performance, and reliability
- Collaborate with IT technology teams to implement ongoing monitoring and configure Level 1 & 2 incidents within EMS
- Guide project managers and technology team managers on solution definition, technical design, and development of in-house solutions within agreed timelines and costs
- Resolve assigned incidents within agreed service levels and manage problem resolution according to Problem Management Process
- Manage changes within the technology area ensuring alignment with architectural and security standards
- Publish and maintain high-quality documentation, configuration details, operations manuals, and deployment architecture ensuring data accuracy and governance
- Manage end-of-life replacement of equipment and software within the technology area to maintain technical standards
- Translate process and enhancement specifications into effective programs with error-free code using enterprise development tools
- Lead database automation and optimization initiatives in collaboration with DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams
Experience & skills
- Degree or Honours in Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
- 5+ years working in IT engineering or related technical roles
- Expertise in engineering and maintaining scalable, resilient, and high-performance database platforms
- Strong understanding of Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) principles including on-demand provisioning and lifecycle management
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices
- Experience in service catalog development and database management for self-service provisioning and governance
- Experience integrating database platforms with cloud management systems and orchestration tools
- Knowledge of auto-healing and self-remediation techniques to ensure database stability and minimal downtime
- Ability to lead database automation and optimization initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional IT teams
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
