Job description
Most security teams react, tuning SIEM rules after the alert fires and writing playbooks after the incident closes, and this Senior Security Operations Engineer role exists to make threats irrelevant before they become incidents. You help build an autonomous security operations platform at Deriv that hunts proactively, responds automatically, and learns continuously, protecting a distributed system that processes transactions around the clock. Detection logic gets built to fire early, extending SIEM custom rules, AI-powered anomaly baselines, and automated alert enrichment that cuts noise and surfaces what actually matters. Threat hunts run on hypotheses rather than hunches, using behavioural analytics, log forensics, and threat intelligence to surface adversarial activity hiding below the alert threshold. You automate the response too, replacing manual triage with intelligent playbooks that contain threats in minutes, turning a senior analyst's six-step process into a runbook that runs unattended overnight. Real-time dashboards track detection coverage, active incidents, misconfiguration trends, and policy compliance for the team and for leadership. Security assessments run across cloud, endpoint, network, and application layers, mapping gaps against MITRE ATT&CK, CIS, and NIST benchmarks before attackers find them first. Zero Trust gets enforced in practice, closing IAM gaps, applying least privilege across cloud workloads, and strengthening MFA and conditional access, while container security and CI/CD guardrails keep vulnerabilities out of production.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Extend SIEM custom rules, AI-powered anomaly baselines, and automated alert enrichment to reduce noise and surface real threats
- Run threat hunts using behavioural analytics, log forensics, and threat intelligence
- Optimise EDR/XDR configurations to cut false positives and make attack visibility actionable
- Build incident response automation that contains threats within minutes
- Encode institutional knowledge into workflows that run unattended
- Ship automated dashboards tracking detection coverage, active incidents, and policy compliance
- Assess security across cloud, endpoint, network, and application layers, mapping gaps against MITRE ATT&CK, CIS, and NIST benchmarks
- Close IAM gaps and apply least privilege across cloud workloads to enforce Zero Trust
- Strengthen MFA and conditional access controls in partnership with IT and Engineering
- Ensure container security, CI/CD guardrails, and automated compliance scanning prevent vulnerabilities from reaching production
Experience & skills
- Bring 8 or more years of experience in security operations, incident response, threat detection, or blue team work
- Write custom SIEM detection rules, tune thresholds, and build correlation logic
- Reduce false positives by an order of magnitude at least once
- Automate repetitive problems using Python, Bash, or Terraform rather than escalating them
- Understand AI's role in security, including where machine learning based anomaly detection and UEBA catch things humans miss and where they need guardrails
- Secure cloud environments at scale across AWS, GCP, or Azure, including posture review and compliance scanning
- Communicate risk clearly, translating technical exposure into decisions for engineering leads and executives
- Hold certifications such as CISSP, GSEC, or AWS Security Specialty as a signal of expertise, though not required
