Job description
The Indirect Tax β Senior Consultant role at EY in Dubai supports clients with VAT treatment of new and complex transactions, classification issues and other tax-related disputes with authorities. The position requires working as part of a global network of professional advisors, supporting senior team members, maintaining communication and collaborating with VAT professionals to combine cross-border transaction experience with local tax knowledge across multiple industries. Responsibilities include preparing reports and schedules, participating in meetings with management teams, developing strong relationships with client personnel and building internal relationships within the VAT practice, Indirect Tax and across other EY service lines. Technical duties involve developing a deep understanding of Customs Law and its practical application across countries, understanding and applying regional Free Trade Agreements and customs concepts including valuation, classification and origin, identifying and discussing VAT considerations for outbound investments, collaborating with overseas offices to deliver VAT advice for global jurisdictions, preparing for potential VAT introduction in different countries and advising clients on possible impacts, and supporting audit and transaction projects with indirect tax expertise. The role requires strong written and oral English communication, the ability to identify areas of risk, conduct effective reviews, exercise sound judgment on escalation, remain commercially aware, build effective client relationships, manage projects, prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, monitor budgets and solve problems creatively. Candidates must hold a degree in economics, finance, tax or accounting and possess at least three years of indirect tax experience. Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm, customs duty advisory, VAT/GST advisory or relevant industry or legal experience is preferred. - Plan and prioritize work, meet deadlines and monitor individual project budgets
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree in economics, finance, tax or accounting
- Possess at least three years of relevant experience as an Indirect Tax professional
- Have experience in a Big 4 accounting firm, or relevant experience in law firms or industry
- Possess customs duty advisory experience or VAT/GST advisory experience
- Demonstrate strong English written and oral communication skills
- Be able to build strong client relationships and communicate effectively in various situations
- Show the ability to identify risk areas, conduct effective reviews and escalate appropriately
- Demonstrate commercial awareness and ability to work effectively as a team player
- Possess project management skills including planning, prioritization, deadline management and budget monitoring
