Private Banker role at Barclays Private Banking team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Europe & Middle East business area; relationship management expertise; permanent contract), within a growing Private Banking team focused on rapid growth in the UAE and headed by a new MD for Private Bank within the UAE. Provides bespoke banking and investment solutions to high-net-worth clients, acting as trusted advisor delivering bespoke banking services, lending and wealth structuring, and investment solutions/products across all asset classes. Manages and grows a portfolio of HNW/UHNW clients by understanding financial goals and risk appetite, acting as primary point of contact providing service and financial advice, conducting regular reviews of investment and financial portfolios, and serving as subject matter expert for banking products, credit advice, investment knowledge and complex client queries. Delivers high quality bespoke advice, maximises client value and negotiates best commercial outcomes. Identifies and onboards new clients through networking, referrals and strategic partnerships; develops and executes strategies to attract and retain wealthy clients; attends client events, wealth management forums and high-profile gatherings in the UAE; advises on portfolio management, estate planning, succession and offshore structuring where relevant; and keeps clients informed on market trends, economic updates and investment opportunities. Essential qualifications include previous experience working as a Private Banker in the UAE market with a client base over USD300m, exceptional relationship management/client servicing skills with high-net-worth clients, experience controlling and monitoring risk within a client book, strong knowledge of global economic and political conditions/current affairs/competitor activity and their client impact, and understanding of investments, banking and trust concepts including asset allocation on structured portfolios, managed portfolios, brokerage accounts, portfolio reviews, deposit and loan solutions, basic trust and estate products and identification of wealth planning opportunities, plus ability to adapt to changing regulatory and technological environment. Desirable skills include knowledge of regulated credit agreements, investment advice, deposits, portfolio management services and financial promotions, and high aptitude in the digital landscape. Accountabilities include identifying client goals/challenges/risk tolerance; analyzing data from investment portfolio and cash flow to identify trends/insights/areas for improvement and additional services; researching industry trends/regulatory landscape/competitive environment; designing customized solutions across bank products/services; communicating value proposition, justifying recommendations and negotiating terms; providing expert investment advice, risk management and wealth management strategies support, and market trend updates; assessing financial/legal/operational risks and implementing mitigation; documenting interactions/transactions/agreements for transparency and auditability and communicating findings to support product/service/strategy; and monitoring client satisfaction, revenue and metrics. - Research and understand client industry trends, regulatory landscape and competitive environment to inform strategic recommendations
- Design customized solutions using bank products and services and communicate value proposition, justify recommendations and negotiate terms beneficial to client and bank
- Assess financial, legal and operational risks within client relationships, implement measures to minimise potential losses and control and monitor risk within the client book
- Document client interactions, transactions and agreements to ensure transparency and auditability and communicate findings to support product development, service offerings and bank strategy
- Monitor client satisfaction, revenue generated and other metrics to evaluate relationship management effectiveness
- Manage and strengthen controls and support the control and governance agenda including escalation of breaches of policies and procedures where required
Experience & skills
- Have previous experience working as a Private Banker in the UAE market with a client base of over USD300m
- Demonstrate exceptional client servicing and relationship management skills with high-net-worth clients and proven ability to build and manage an HNW/UHNW client base
- Have experience controlling and monitoring risk within a client book and be able to assess and mitigate financial, legal and operational risks in client relationships
- Maintain strong knowledge of global economic and political conditions, current affairs and competitor activity and understand their impact on clients
- Demonstrate experience or understanding of investments, banking and trust concepts including asset allocation on structured portfolios, managed portfolios, brokerage accounts, portfolio reviews, deposit and loan solutions, and basic trust and estate products
- Be able to identify wealth planning opportunities and advise on portfolio management, estate planning, succession and offshore structuring where relevant
- Be able to adapt to a rapidly changing regulatory and technological environment and demonstrate aptitude in the digital landscape to manage changing client needs
