Job description
The Senior Civil Engineer at Wood will lead engineering design and change management activities for large-scale gas processing projects in the Oil & Gas sector, based in Abu Dhabi. This role includes oversight of civil design units, supervision of engineering teams, and assurance of compliance with client standards. Key responsibilities encompass reviewing and approving detailed technical documents including Civil Diagrams, P&IDs, PSFS, structural specifications, and simulation studies. The engineer will contribute to safety-related reviews like HAZOP and SIL, and support dynamic assessments including MDMT and flare system design. Additional duties include leading stakeholder discussions, mentoring junior engineers, preparing commissioning documents, and assisting with scheduling and cost estimation. A strong background in structural design and pipe rack studies is required. The candidate must possess over 10 years of experience, demonstrate resilience in managing change, and have excellent communication and leadership skills within multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities
- Lead civil design work and supervise assigned engineers on large gas processing projects
- Execute civil engineering activities within budget, schedule, and technical integrity constraints
- Ensure designs conform to client and project specifications
- Review and approve P&IDs, civil specifications, structural documents, and related studies
- Evaluate and approve dynamic simulation, surge, and MDMT studies
- Oversee depressurization studies, flare load estimation, and flare system design
- Ensure safety and environmental standards are upheld during project execution
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and other safety review processes
- Contribute to supplier quotation reviews and ensure licensor compliance
- Engage in technical meetings and handle discussions with client engineers
- Mentor junior engineers and support team development
- Assist in planning, scheduling, reporting, and document preparation for pre-commissioning and commissioning
- Support proposal development including manhour estimation and scheduling
- Identify and report project impediments to project or discipline managers
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in gas processing or oil & gas sector
- Strong structural engineering background with experience in pipe rack studies
- Demonstrated understanding of organizational change and stakeholder engagement
- Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Experience with dynamic simulation and technical study evaluations
- Proficient in relevant engineering software tools
- Ability to work collaboratively in high-pressure, changing environments
- Proven ability to lead and mentor junior team members
- Familiarity with safety standards and participation in safety reviews
