Job description
The Manager of Adults Unit role is responsible for leading and managing adult programming and reference services within the Public Engagement division, ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and community-responsive adult programs that support lifelong learning, enrichment, and equitable access to knowledge. The role oversees planning and implementation of adult programs and services in alignment with the Children and Young Adults unit to ensure Qatar National Library functions as a responsive and vibrant hub for adult patrons. Responsibilities include strategic planning with the Director, budget management, development of innovative community initiatives with emphasis on cultural and Qatari resources, delivery of adult services such as reference services, readerās advisory, writing services, digital and media literacy, and access to library resources. The position ensures continuous assessment and adaptation of programs based on feedback, maintains excellent customer service standards, leads policy and procedure development, manages operational plans and service standards, evaluates community needs and trends, builds partnerships with local organizations, contributes to the library profession, supports outreach and research initiatives, and manages a team within a supportive, inclusive, and high-performance environment.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage adult programming and reference services within the Public Engagement division
- Plan and implement adult programs and services in alignment with the Children and Young Adults unit
- Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning and execution of community engagement initiatives aligned with QNL strategic objectives
- Develop and implement innovative community initiatives with a focus on cultural and Qatari library resources
- Deliver and oversee adult services including reference services, readerās advisory, writing services, digital literacy, media literacy, and access to library resources
- Assess programs and services regularly and adapt offerings based on feedback and community needs
- Ensure delivery of excellent customer service to adult patrons
- Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, operational plans, programs, and service standards for the unit
- Manage budgets and business plans for unit activities in alignment with the Public Engagement Department
- Develop partnerships with local organizations to expand program reach and impact
- Evaluate community needs, interests, and trends to ensure relevant and responsive offerings
- Monitor developments, trends, and issues relevant to adult library services
- Contribute to the library profession through publishing, presenting, or participation in professional organizations
- Serve on designated committees within the library, Qatar Foundation, and the wider community
- Participate in outreach programs supporting research, education, and community needs
- Manage and develop the team while fostering an inclusive, high-performance, and continuously improving work environment
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorās degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association
- Possess 8ā10 years of professional library experience in an academic, research, or metropolitan public library
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Exhibit capability in managing adult library services, programming, and community engagement initiatives
- Maintain professional experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and policy development within library environments
