Job description
The Corrosion Engineer is responsible for conducting specialized technical studies and investigations to enhance the reliability, safety, and performance of refinery and petrochemical facilities. The role involves analyzing corrosion-related failures, recommending preventive and corrective measures, and supporting corrosion management strategies across operational assets. The engineer collaborates with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and company procedures while delivering technical expertise that supports informed operational and investment decisions.

Key responsibilities
- Develop detailed work schedules and technical plans to support engineering studies, design activities, and maintenance planning related to corrosion control
- Conduct investigations into corrosion-related failures, metal degradation, and material defects to determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Recommend suitable materials, coatings, and corrosion protection methods for repairs, replacements, and new installations
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement cathodic protection systems, coating programs, and chemical treatment strategies
- Analyze complex engineering data related to corrosion performance, operational reliability, and asset integrity within refinery or petrochemical facilities
- Prepare, review, and consolidate engineering reports, investigation findings, and technical studies to support operational decisions
- Participate in or lead the development of proposals and technical solutions for complex engineering projects related to corrosion mitigation
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and international engineering codes including API, ASME, and NACE/AMPP
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of long-term corrosion management and asset integrity programs
- Support maintenance teams in planning and executing corrosion-related inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities
- Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and assist in performance reviews of corrosion management initiatives
- Perform additional engineering duties as assigned by the Engineering Section Head
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Engineering from a recognized university
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in corrosion engineering, preferably within refinery or petrochemical industries
- Strong expertise in corrosion management, materials selection, and failure analysis in industrial process environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, design calculations, and economic considerations related to engineering projects
- Experience implementing corrosion mitigation methods including coatings, cathodic protection, and chemical treatment programs
- Familiarity with international industry standards such as API, ASME, and NACE/AMPP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex engineering data
- Experience preparing technical reports, engineering studies, and investigation documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide technical recommendations to management and stakeholders
