Job description
The Deputy Head of Primary at GEMS Founders School - Masdar City will work alongside the Principal and Head of Primary to oversee the day-to-day and strategic management of the Primary school. The role includes responsibility for academic standards, curriculum planning, behaviour management, pastoral support, staff development, and parent engagement. The Deputy Head of Primary will drive the implementation of the school’s vision, values, and educational strategy while ensuring compliance with UAE National Agenda targets and GEMS standards of excellence.

Key responsibilities
- Support the Head of Primary in leading the Primary team, including performance management.
- Assist in shaping and implementing the educational strategy for the school.
- Formulate the aims and objectives of the school and establish policies for achieving these aims.
- Manage staff and resources to meet academic and operational goals.
- Monitor progress towards the achievement of the school’s aims and objectives.
- Oversee budgets and undertake teaching and professional duties as delegated by the Principal.
- Work closely with the Head of Primary to implement high-quality learning and teaching practices.
- Ensure students experience a positive and enriching school life.
- Uphold educational standards aligned with the UAE National Agenda and GEMS Core Values.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation systems for teaching and learning standards.
- Promote inclusive practices for SEN students and collaborate with parents for support.
- Ensure effective organisational management, safeguarding, and risk mitigation.
- Identify and address barriers to school effectiveness and lead improvement initiatives.
- Provide professional development opportunities for staff and hold them accountable for performance.
- Maintain relationships with parents, staff, and external stakeholders to improve educational outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with governance, accountability, and statutory frameworks.
Experience & skills
- B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Fully certified teacher status.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching and leadership.
- Experience with the National Curriculum for England.
- Proven leadership, communication, and staff development abilities.
- Passion for providing outstanding teaching and learning.
- A minimum of IELTS 6 or equivalent may be required.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
- UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police check is required.
