Job description
The Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessments at The Westminster School ā Dubai is a key senior leadership position responsible for driving excellence in classroom practice, assessment strategies, and academic outcomes. The role ensures continuous improvement in teaching and learning quality, oversees assessment and data management, and provides strategic direction for curriculum delivery and instructional excellence. Reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Local Advisory Board, the Head plays a vital role in quality assurance, professional development, and performance monitoring across all key stages. This position requires a strong leader with deep knowledge of the National Curriculum for England, exceptional organisational and communication skills, and a proven ability to inspire teachers and raise standards of learning and achievement.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Ensure the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment progresses toward āOutstandingā across the school
- Oversee implementation of effective assessment systems that improve teaching and learning outcomes
- Lead and manage self-evaluation and quality assurance systems related to TLA (Teaching, Learning, and Assessment)
- Write and execute improvement plans based on internal and external evaluations
- Report regularly to the Senior Team and Local Advisory Board on TLA quality and improvement initiatives
- Identify development needs through QA findings and implement staff training programs to address them
- Lead the induction program for new teachers, ensuring alignment with school standards and culture
- Manage examinations and data teams to improve academic outcomes and operational efficiency
- Monitor and report on student progress at all key stages, implementing interventions where needed
- Provide academic guidance and support to students during key examination periods
- Ensure the smooth and compliant administration of examinations and assessments
- Develop, update, and enforce policies and procedures related to TLA and student outcomes
- Drive innovation and promote best teaching practices across the school community
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement among teaching staff
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās and Masterās degree in a core subject (e.g., English, Mathematics, Science, etc.)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) mandatory
- Previous experience as Head of Department or in a senior leadership role overseeing teaching, learning, and assessments
- Extensive understanding of the National Curriculum for England
- Strong leadership, organisational, and strategic planning skills
- Ability to analyse data and use evidence-based decision-making to improve student performance
- Excellent communication, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities
- Capacity to implement new policies, manage change, and foster staff development
- Energetic, resilient, and able to perform effectively under pressure in a multicultural school environment
