Job description
The role is responsible for driving growth in Woodâs Oil & Gas business by identifying, validating, and leading key prospects and opportunities across multiple sectors and capabilities, ensuring alignment with global and BU strategic plans. The Business Development Manager supports all positioning, business strategies, acquisition pursuits, customer management, and proposal activities while ensuring compliance with Woodâs processes, procedures, strategic goals, Business Ethics Policy, Risk Assessments, and Internal Audit requirements. The scope includes managing an opportunity funnel, identifying complementary skillsets and relationships across Wood to enhance competitiveness, defining new market entry requirements, preparing prequalification and bid submissions, supporting execution plans through intelligence on customer needs and competitor landscapes, processing customer enquiries and bid submissions, maintaining CRM system records for governance, coordinating client meetings, ensuring positioning plan compliance, leveraging Wood solutions collaboratively across regions, conducting regular client visits to gather actionable feedback, identifying acquisition targets and JV partners, understanding government/state apparatus relevant to contract approvals, and maintaining strong customer networks. The role requires advanced computer and document/data management capabilities, understanding of project delivery phases, commercial drivers, HSE leadership concepts, strategy tools, and international operations exposure.

Key responsibilities
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow Woodâs business in line with global and BU strategic plans
- Coordinate with other Business Development Managers and execution centres to leverage complementary skillsets, competence, relationships, and cost bases
- Support positioning, business strategies, acquisition pursuits, customer management, and proposal activities ensuring alignment with Woodâs processes and strategic plan
- Utilise market, client, and opportunity knowledge to identify undue risks and guide No Pursuit/Bid recommendations when appropriate
- Develop and deliver effective strategies for gaining new business and defining new market entry requirements and win propositions
- Develop clear route maps to successful prequalification and bid submissions and communicate them to pursuit and proposal teams
- Provide input to execution plans by sharing intelligence on customer needs and competitor landscapes to enhance proposition success
- Process customer enquiries, compile prequalification packages, and manage bid submissions
- Work with internal departments to fulfil client needs and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Inform leadership of market conditions, competitor status, relationship status, and collaboration opportunities
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Ensure compliance with Business Ethics Policy, Risk Assessments, and Internal Audit requirements
- Identify, validate, and lead key prospects and opportunities
- Facilitate client meetings with appropriate Wood personnel to meet business objectives
- Use commercial and contractual acumen to identify barriers to success and assess Woodâs competitiveness
- Coordinate input into the LRM process and participate in reviews
- Support SVP/VP BD with forecasting, re-forecasting, and prospect portfolio management
- Create, review, and maintain integrity of opportunity records in CRM systems for accuracy and compliance
- Promote collaboration with regional Wood entities to ensure aligned customer approaches
- Ensure positioning plan compliance for all active and future opportunities
- Conduct regular client visits, gather independent feedback, and integrate improvements into plans
- Identify potential acquisition targets and JV partners
- Develop strong local partner relationships and leverage combined strengths for securing work
- Remain familiar with government and state apparatus related to contract approvals and awards
Experience & skills
- Hold a bachelor level degree in a technical or related field
- Possess advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with Xaite, MIDAS, and Documentum is an advantage
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of projects in the sector and market of operation
- Be proficient in relevant company strategy and development tools and systems
- Have a thorough understanding of industry best practice and commercial drivers
- Act in strict compliance with the Code of Business Ethics
- Have experience with key concepts of HSE leadership and commitment
- Preferably possess international operations experience
- Bring high commercial and technical acumen
- Have experience in negotiating and commercialising contracts
- Be experienced in managing changing deadlines, enquiries, and related pressures
- Possess international market-related business development experience on related projects
- Have sound knowledge of project delivery across all phases and execution
- Experience in proposal development roles is advantageous
