Job description
The Sr / Specialist Legal ā Alternative Energy at OQ Alternative Energy LLC (Location: Oman ā Muscat; Stream: OQ Alternative Energy; Function: Legal; Reporting to: VP Legal; Direct Reportees: 0) performs end-to-end legal tasks within the Alternative Energy sector under the VP Legalās instruction, providing timely, value-added legal support and advice to OQ Alternative Energy management and business units to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and internal policies and procedures. Acting in line with OQAEās Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies and relevant policies, guidelines and international standardsāsupported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omanās governmental and other legal directives, and best international practicesāthe role executes contract review and drafting, joint venture agreement review and drafting, project document review and drafting, corporate support, and government legal relationships. As a key legal team member, the incumbent ensures compliance across OQ Alternative Energy and subsidiaries with a sound understanding of corporate structures, company law and reporting requirements; reviews, interprets, drafts and/or negotiates EPC contracts, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), procurement contracts, shareholder agreements, Joint Development Agreements (JDA), and subsidiary incorporation/management documents; and provides practical legal advice for complex, multi-jurisdictional Alternative Energy projects while liaising with affiliates and joint venture partners and coordinating legal and commercial workstreams. Technical competencies include excellent legal knowledge and technical legal report writing, corporate reporting and compliance, project financing and banking, projects oil & gas, claims and disputes, litigation and arbitration, the legal frame for oil & gas industry, corporate law, and knowledge of major software packages, with substantial experience across renewable energy and oil & gas operations, regulations, contractual frameworks, joint venture relations, and commercial dynamics. Notable working conditions include an office environment with intensive computer screen use and sporadic visits to operation sites.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Execute tasks assigned by the VP Legal, including contract review and drafting, joint venture agreement review and drafting, project document review and drafting, corporate support, and government legal relationships
- Ensure all OQ Alternative Energy activities comply with applicable laws and relevant policies and procedures, applying knowledge of corporate structures, company law, and reporting requirements
- Review, interpret, draft and/or negotiate commercial and policy documents including EPC contracts, Power Purchase Agreements, procurement contracts, shareholder agreements, Joint Development Agreements, and subsidiary incorporation/management documents
- Provide timely and practical legal advice on complex, multi-jurisdictional Alternative Energy projects, liaising with company affiliates and joint venture partners, and closely coordinating legal and commercial workstreams
- Assist in the development, support, and training of junior and graduate staff within the OQ Alternative Energy Legal Department
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
- Possess 5+ years (Specialist) or 8+ years (Sr. Specialist) of relevant experience
- Bring working experience in a large and vertically integrated Energy company with both transactional and operational exposure
- Have international and domestic Omani experience in commercial contracts and general corporate matters
- Demonstrate ability to provide concise and clear legal support and opinions to internal clients, including executive management and partners
- Exhibit excellent legal knowledge and technical legal report writing skills
- Show excellent corporate reporting and compliance knowledge
- Demonstrate competencies in project financing and banking, litigation and arbitration, projects oil & gas, claims and disputes, legal framework for oil & gas industry, and corporate law
- Possess knowledge of all major software packages
- Have excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)
