Job description
Manual compliance doesn't scale to millions of transactions, and rules change faster than any policy team can track by hand, which is exactly the gap this Compliance Technology Specialist role closes at Deriv. You extend systems already running in production, including automated AML review, regulatory research automation, and dozens of fraud detection models watching for money movement patterns and coordinated network behaviour. As an individual contributor, you lead through technical expertise rather than people management, though mentoring others and shaping how the team works still falls within scope. Components get owned within one or two focus areas, spanning Regulatory Monitoring and Intelligence, Onboarding, AML and Fraud Workflows, or RegTech Integration, with exposure to the rest. You design systems that aggregate rule changes across jurisdictions, use NLP to work out what they actually mean, and generate alerts with a recommended action attached. Working systems replace manual review too, building onboarding, AML, and fraud detection workflows on microservices and rule engines that remove hand-offs and catch more than a checklist ever could. RegTech gets evaluated and integrated as part of the mandate, assessing AI/ML, blockchain, and digital identity tools against real requirements before leading integration into KYC, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening. Data governance frameworks aligned to GDPR, ISO 27001, and DORA get designed with integrity and auditability built in from the start, alongside AI-driven risk models and simulations for fraud and operational risk.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Design systems that aggregate rule changes across jurisdictions and use NLP to surface what actually needs action
- Generate alerts with a recommended action attached rather than a bare notification
- Build onboarding, AML, and fraud detection workflows on microservices and rule engines
- Translate regulatory obligations into the tooling, governance, and audit evidence they require
- Assess AI/ML, blockchain, and digital identity tools against real requirements
- Run proof-of-concept testing and lead integration into KYC, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening
- Extend blockchain compliance capabilities, including crypto transaction monitoring, counterparty risk scoring, and Travel Rule adherence
- Establish automated data governance frameworks aligned to GDPR, ISO 27001, and DORA
- Develop AI-driven risk models and simulations for fraud and operational risk
- Mentor newer engineers and analysts through day-to-day work
Experience & skills
- Show a track record of shipping compliance systems, including microservices, rule engines, and NLP pipelines, into production
- Translate regulations into the tooling, governance, and audit trail they require without waiting for someone else to do it
- Lead through ambiguity, making calls when requirements are unclear or priorities compete
- Mentor newer engineers and analysts through example rather than instruction alone
- Carry fluency in GDPR, ISO 27001, and DORA, or know exactly where to dig deeper
- Design governance into systems from the start rather than checking for it afterward
- Adjust course quickly when priorities shift mid-build
- Explain complex AI-driven decisions clearly to reviewers who distrust black-box outputs
