Job description
Wood is seeking a Lead Pipeline Engineer for a full-time, office-based role in Sharjah, UAE, with occasional business travel. The role supports the Iraq Operations Business, contributing to major brownfield upstream and midstream oil & gas projects. As a technical leader and subject matter expert, the engineer will define scopes, oversee execution, manage cross-disciplinary coordination, and deliver fit-for-purpose engineering solutions. The role demands high levels of autonomy, business acumen, and an ability to influence medium-term operational and financial outcomes. In addition to technical execution, the role includes mentoring staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting business growth, and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Define and approve technical scopes across pipeline engineering functions.
- Lead delivery and execution of complex engineering tasks, including investigation and feasibility studies.
- Supervise and mentor technical teams and specialists.
- Conduct technical reviews and serve as project technical authority where required.
- Oversee implementation of design engineering solutions and coordinate project documentation.
- Provide technical advice on design processes and construction methods.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality management standards.
- Participate in design reviews, incident investigations, and technical audits.
- Support engineering proposals and business development activities.
- Act as technical custodian for engineering bids and proposals.
- Contribute to development and retention of skilled workforce through mentoring and performance management.
- Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution within agreed timelines and costs.
- Facilitate effective collaboration with internal disciplines and external vendors.
- Participate in client relationship management and stakeholder communication.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in major oil & gas projects, with at least 5 years in a lead engineering position.
- Proven experience in Pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering phases.
- Expertise in brownfield project execution within the GCC region preferred.
- Strong multi-disciplinary coordination and technical leadership skills.
- Advanced understanding of pipeline engineering, design processes, and construction techniques.
- Experience managing scope, cost, schedule, and technical risk.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.
- Ability to evaluate engineering options and deliver optimized technical and financial solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in mentoring junior staff and managing engineering performance.
- Strong client engagement and consulting skills.
- High level of safety awareness and compliance mindset.
