Job description
The Claims Manager is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of contractual claims within an EPCm framework for large-scale oil and gas projects. The role includes responding to subcontractor-originated claims, safeguarding the EPCm contractor’s commercial interests by initiating or supporting claims against the client, and delivering post-award contract management aligned with the Framework for Managing the Fundamentals (FMF). Responsibilities include assessing subcontractor variations and claims, managing contractual correspondence, monitoring compliance, overseeing risk and financial impacts, and providing updates for management reporting. The Claims Manager may supervise commercial team members and ensures effective contract management, administration, and resource allocation. The role requires extensive knowledge of EPCm contracts, compensation models, risk mitigation, change management, and dispute resolution, with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Key responsibilities
- Manage full lifecycle of contractual claims within EPCm framework
- Assess subcontractor variations and resolve disputes according to EPCM contracts
- Work with Commercial Manager and MOC Engineer to identify, assess, and raise contract variations
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and company policies, including initiating notices and reviewing guarantees/insurances
- Manage contractual correspondence with subcontractors and EPCM contractors
- Monitor subcontractor reports and maintain records to support change requests
- Collaborate with Risk Manager to identify key contractual risks and establish quantums
- Provide regular updates on potential changes, claims, or disputes for management reporting
- Keep commercial and finance teams apprised of emerging issues for payment and cash flow purposes
- Provide input into stakeholder and senior management reporting
- Supervise commercial team members and ensure effective resource allocation and contract management
Experience & skills
- 25+ years of proven experience in commercial management of large-scale engineering/construction contracts in oil and gas industry
- In-depth understanding of post-award contract management, compensation models, risk mitigation, change management, and dispute resolution
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Business, or Law
- Strong leadership and influence skills with ability to lead without direct authority
- Flexibility to proactively support team goals
- Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration abilities
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and methodical in managing tasks and resources
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure, adapting to evolving project situations
- Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with clients and senior project stakeholders
