The Assistant Manager – Audit & Assurance (Bank Audit) at BDO UAE is responsible for managing complex audit assignments and group engagements within the banking sector while ensuring compliance with IFRS standards and professional auditing requirements. The role involves coordinating with audit teams to complete allocated assignments within defined timelines, delegating work appropriately, and monitoring project efficiency including billing and collection processes. The Assistant Manager performs first-level review of complex financial statements in accordance with IFRS, analyzes key statistics and industry matters related to banking entities, reviews prior year financial statements including enhanced audit reports, and evaluates audit documentation before engagement initiation. The position requires organizing and leading preliminary client meetings, managing multiple viewpoints to build consensus, promoting collaboration, and creating a positive working environment. The role includes reviewing audit documentation, preparing technical documentation including facts, analysis, reference to authoritative literature, and professional judgements, and ensuring objectivity, independence, and continuance decisions are properly documented. The Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring engagement staff possess adequate technical knowledge including banking industry expertise, reviewing audit reports, communicating findings and recommendations to clients, and presenting to Audit Committee, Board of Directors, and Those Charged With Governance (TCWG). The role also includes leading client audit closing meetings, supporting or performing staff appraisals, encouraging professional development, managing conflicts, and maintaining strong client relationships. The position requires experience in auditing within professional services firms or multinational organizations, bank audit experience, and professional certifications such as CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent, while supporting BDO's client-focused and relationship-driven culture.

Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage complex audit assignments and group engagements within the banking sector by delegating tasks to audit team members, ensuring adherence to timelines, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with IFRS and audit standards throughout the engagement lifecycle
- Perform first-level review of complex financial statements, audit working papers, and audit documentation in accordance with IFRS, ensuring accuracy, completeness, professional judgement, and adherence to authoritative literature and audit methodologies
- Analyze key statistics, industry trends, and banking sector developments by reviewing prior year financial statements, enhanced audit reports, and audit documentation to gain comprehensive understanding of client business before engagement begins
- Organize and lead preliminary client meetings, manage stakeholder communication, understand client requirements, and present audit plans, findings, and recommendations to clients, Audit Committee, Board of Directors, and Those Charged With Governance (TCWG)
- Monitor project efficiency including tracking engagement budgets, timelines, billings, and collections while ensuring optimal resource utilization and delivery of audit assignments within agreed deadlines
- Prepare and review audit documentation including facts, analysis, conclusions, references to authoritative literature, professional judgements, independence assessments, and continuance decisions ensuring audit quality and compliance standards
- Ensure engagement team members possess adequate technical knowledge including banking industry expertise, provide guidance, perform appraisals, support professional development, and foster collaboration within the audit team
- Lead audit closing meetings, communicate audit findings and recommendations, resolve conflicting viewpoints, promote consensus, and support management in maintaining client relationships and delivering high-quality audit services
Experience & skills
- Demonstrate minimum 4+ years of auditing experience within professional services firms or large multinational organizations with proven experience managing audit engagements and bank audit assignments
- Possess strong technical knowledge of IFRS, financial statement review, audit documentation, and professional auditing standards applicable to banking sector audits
- Hold a degree in Business, Accounting, or related field with strong foundation in auditing, financial reporting, and accounting principles
- Maintain professional certification such as CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification as mandatory requirement for the role
- Demonstrate successful record of engagement management including audit planning, execution, review, reporting, and client communication
- Show experience presenting audit findings to senior stakeholders including Audit Committee, Board of Directors, and Those Charged With Governance (TCWG)
- Exhibit fluency in English including reading, speaking, and writing to support client communication, documentation, and reporting requirements
- Demonstrate experience in bank audit engagements with strong understanding of banking industry risks, financial reporting complexities, and audit procedures
