Job description
The Exhibition Specialist is responsible for creating engaging exhibitions that showcase QNL’s Distinctive collections, supporting the library’s mission to connect with diverse audiences. This role involves developing both permanent and temporary exhibitions, curating themes, objects, and interpretive materials, and maintaining exhibition quality. The specialist manages the logistics of installation and deinstallation, oversees rotations of permanent galleries, coordinates external loans including contracts, insurance, packing, shipping, and installations, and ensures accurate documentation and archiving according to museum best practices. Additionally, the specialist engages the public through tours, events, and access to collections while coordinating acquisitions for exhibitions and supporting colleagues across departments.

Key responsibilities
- Manage the conceptualization and development of permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions to ensure high-quality, engaging displays.
- Project-manage the logistics of installation and deinstallation, including preparation tasks such as conservation, content production, and object handling.
- Lead rotation projects for permanent galleries, managing timelines, budgets, and overall exhibition quality.
- Curate and manage the interpretation of collections, ensuring exhibition narratives, labels, and texts are accurate, consistent, and engaging.
- Coordinate external loans of Distinctive collections, including agreements, insurance, packing, shipping, unpacking, installations, and stakeholder communications.
- Maintain accurate records of acquisitions, loans, and exhibitions, supporting archiving through photography, video, and written documentation.
- Engage visitors through tours, public programs, and events to assess the impact of exhibitions and provide access to collections during reading room shifts.
- Collaborate with acquisition committees and other librarians to identify and acquire materials for permanent or temporary exhibitions.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- 2–5 years of full-time experience in exhibitions, curatorial work, or related library and cultural roles.
- Proven project management experience, including budgeting, timelines, and installation logistics.
- Strong curatorial and collection interpretation skills, including exhibition narrative and text development.
- Experience coordinating external loans, handling agreements, insurance, packing, shipping, and installations.
- Proficiency in documenting and archiving exhibitions according to museum standards.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
- Ability to engage the public through tours, events, and reading room access, ensuring high-quality visitor experiences.
