Job description
The Senior Manager – Tax & Compliance role is responsible for planning, managing, and implementing taxation-related accounting requirements across the Middle East to ensure full tax compliance of financial accounting. The role works closely with Business Accounts Managers, Business Finance Managers, and IT teams to embed tax compliance into financial processes and systems. The position oversees tax accounting, planning, compliance, and policy functions, manages domestic and international direct and indirect tax obligations, supports tax inspections, and implements corrective actions in accounting processes and documentation retention. The role acts as a subject matter expert on evolving Middle East tax laws, including VAT, WHT, Corporate Income Tax, Excise Tax, Zakat, and sales tax, assessing impacts and incorporating regulatory changes into business and corporate strategies. It involves managing tax return filings largely in-house, coordinating with tax consultants when required, liaising with internal and external auditors, overseeing transfer pricing arrangements, supporting tax planning initiatives for new business, product launches, integration initiatives, and international expansion, and ensuring robust internal controls and compliance frameworks are maintained across a large multinational retail organization.

- Plan, manage, and implement taxation-related accounting requirements across the Middle East to ensure full tax compliance of financial accounting
- Support and manage all tax inspections within given timelines and implement accounting process and documentation retention changes arising from inspection gaps
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging taxation developments and assess their impact on business strategy and compliance
- Identify, develop, and implement tax accounting process improvements to enhance compliance across the organization
- Execute approved tax compliance strategies and contribute to business and corporate strategy development for assigned areas
- Act as a subject matter expert on changing tax laws and advise the business on regulatory implications
- Oversee day-to-day tax accounting, planning, compliance, and tax policy functions
- Ensure proper and timely completion of domestic and international direct and indirect tax returns with full analysis and support
- Monitor and manage tax applicability, collection, and reporting for VAT, WHT, Corporate Income Tax, Excise Tax, Zakat, and sales tax
- Develop and implement tax strategies and structures for new business initiatives within compliance frameworks
- Coordinate tax inspections, objections, and appeals within defined timelines and support tax consultants as required
- Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with taxation standards and requirements
- Support tax planning projects, integration initiatives, product launches, and international business expansion workstreams
- Monitor and manage transfer pricing arrangements between entities
- Assess and implement appropriate internal controls for tax accounting processes and procedures
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree or postgraduate professional qualification such as CA, CPA, or ACCA in Accounting, Audit, or Tax
- Possess 10+ years of post-qualification experience within a large multinational retail organization
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Middle East taxation including direct and indirect taxes
- Have hands-on experience managing tax compliance, inspections, audits, and regulatory engagements
- Be proficient in Oracle financial systems
- Have the ability to read, write, and speak English and Arabic
