Job description
The Senior Electrical Engineer will join Mott MacDonaldâs Transport and Rail Infrastructure team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, supporting the expansion of rail and metro enhancement programmes across the Middle East. This permanent, full-time role focuses on delivering complex RTA station enhancement and upgrade projects, working in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across rail systems, architecture, civil structures, fire safety, and MEP disciplines. The position involves leading the design and technical delivery of electrical systems for metro and rail stations, including LV distribution systems, lighting systems design, emergency power systems, UPS systems, earthing and bonding, and ELV systems integration. The role also requires experience with integrated station systems such as SCADA systems and fire alarm networks. Responsibilities include preparing load calculations, electrical schematics, reports, and technical specifications, conducting site assessments of existing infrastructure, overseeing installation and commissioning, and ensuring compliance with RTA, DEWA, and Dubai Civil Defense regulations. The engineer will review contractor submissions, manage multidisciplinary coordination, support project managers with risk identification and programme inputs, and contribute to technical proposals for new work while maintaining strong commercial awareness and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the design, review, and delivery of electrical systems for metro and rail station enhancement projects, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance
- Prepare detailed load calculations, electrical layouts, schematics, reports, and technical specifications aligned with project scope and authority requirements
- Manage multidisciplinary coordination across rail systems, civil, architectural, fire safety, and MEP teams to ensure integrated project delivery
- Conduct site assessments, surveys, and technical evaluations of existing station electrical infrastructure and propose upgrade solutions
- Provide technical oversight during installation, testing and commissioning to ensure system performance and safety standards are met
- Ensure compliance with RTA, DEWA, and Dubai Civil Defense regulations and manage authority approvals processes
- Review contractor submissions including method statements, material proposals, and risk assessments, ensuring adherence to specifications
- Support project managers with progress reporting, commercial awareness, programme inputs, risk identification, and contribute to technical proposals and fee submissions
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorâs degree in Electrical Engineering (Masterâs preferred) with strong academic and technical grounding
- Demonstrate proven experience in metro, rail, or transportation enhancement programmes, particularly involving RTA projects
- Exhibit strong technical knowledge of LV distribution systems, lighting systems design, emergency power systems, UPS systems, earthing and bonding, and ELV systems integration
- Show experience working with integrated station systems including SCADA systems and fire alarm networks
- Demonstrate ability to conduct load calculations, prepare electrical schematics, and develop technical specifications and reports
- Possess experience interfacing with authorities such as RTA, DEWA, and Dubai Civil Defense and managing compliance requirements
- Exhibit strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and technical report-writing skills within multidisciplinary environments
- Demonstrate commercial awareness with the ability to manage scope, budget, and programme constraints; chartership or progression toward chartership is advantageous
