Job description
The Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer role is part of Zain Bahrain’s subsidiary fintech company, Bede, a Shariah-compliant Islamic financing application licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Bahrain. The position supports and deputizes for the MLRO in accordance with CBB requirements and is responsible for assisting in the implementation and management of the organization’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework. The role covers development and implementation of AML policies and procedures, transaction monitoring for suspicious activity, name screening clarification, AML risk assessment oversight, preparation and submission of Suspicious Transaction Reports and Suspicious Activity Reports to the Financial Intelligence Directorate, regulatory compliance with the Financial Crime Module, staff AML/CTF training, internal audits, and liaison with regulators and law enforcement agencies. The position ensures continuity of AML/CTF oversight, minimizes money laundering and terrorist financing risk, supports regulatory examinations and inspections by the Central Bank of Bahrain and other authorities, integrates AML controls across departments, and supports AML aspects of Shariah audits and reviews within a regulated fintech and Islamic financial services environment.

Key responsibilities
- Act as the designated alternate to the MLRO during absence or unavailability in line with Central Bank of Bahrain requirements
- Support the MLRO in suspicious transaction analysis, investigation, and escalation
- Ensure continuity of AML/CTF oversight across the organization at all times
- Assist in preparation, review, and submission of Suspicious Transaction Reports and Suspicious Activity Reports to the Financial Intelligence Directorate
- Ensure compliance with AML regulations, CBB rules, and industry best practices
- Minimize the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing within the organization
- Support other departments in integrating AML controls into operational processes
- Develop, implement, and maintain AML policies and procedures
- Oversee and update the organization’s AML risk assessment process regularly
- Clarify name screening alerts and conduct transaction monitoring for suspicious activity and escalate cases to relevant authorities
- Maintain confidentiality and independence in all STR and SAR related matters
- Support regulatory examinations, inspections, and information requests from the Central Bank of Bahrain and competent authorities
- Support the design and delivery of mandatory AML/CTF training programs including onboarding and annual refresher training
- Track completion and effectiveness of AML/CTF training in line with CBB expectations
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with AML regulations
- Monitor changes in AML laws and regulations and update internal policies and procedures accordingly
- Build and maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies
- Collaborate with internal departments to integrate AML controls across the organization
- Support AML-related requirements within Shariah audits and reviews
- Perform additional tasks as required by departmental needs
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in law, business, or a relevant field
- Possess a minimum of 3–5 years of AML/CTF experience within a regulated financial institution, fintech, or Islamic financial services firm
- Demonstrate familiarity with Central Bank of Bahrain regulations including the Financial Crime Module
- Hold an AML certification such as CAMS, ICA, or an equivalent qualification
- Demonstrate knowledge of national AML laws, rules, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrate understanding of financial services risk and mitigation frameworks
- Maintain compliance with confidentiality, independence, and regulatory expectations
- Submit required application documents including resume or CV, passport-size photograph, and highest education qualification
