Job description
The Senior Field Service Specialist at ABB is responsible for the end-to-end field service of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) motors, including installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This role focuses on ensuring operational reliability, energy efficiency, and optimal performance of industrial motors across multiple sectors. The specialist will work directly with clients to provide technical solutions, preventive and predictive maintenance, and actionable recommendations to enhance motor longevity and production uptime. The position requires hands-on expertise in electro-mechanical systems, ABB-specific testing protocols, vibration analysis, and synchronous motor servicing, as well as certification in multiple ABB maintenance levels.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Install, test, commission, and service LV and MV motors on-site, ensuring compliance with ABB standards and customer requirements
- Perform motor alignment with driven equipment to maintain operational efficiency and reduce mechanical stress
- Troubleshoot electro-mechanical faults on-site, diagnosing issues and implementing corrective actions
- Conduct technical sales visits to advise clients on motor performance, preventive maintenance, and reliability improvements
- Perform on-site motor overhauling and a wide range of electrical tests including winding resistance, megger, partial discharge, tan-delta, hi-potential, PDCA, and vibration analysis
- Execute ABB LEAP and Machsense-P testing on motors to detect critical faults and provide solutions
- Install and commission ABB synchronous motors (AMS 900β1250 and AMZ) with adherence to technical standards
- Analyze motor vibration measurements to identify root causes such as alignment issues or bearing failures
- Apply ABB-certified preventive maintenance procedures for synchronous motors and generators at L3/L4 levels
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and reports on field service activities
- Collaborate with the Service Manager and other ABB teams to ensure timely project execution and operational excellence
- Ensure adherence to HSE standards, safety regulations, and ABB operational protocols in all field activities
- Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior field service engineers when required
Experience & skills
- Bachelorβs degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 10β15 years of experience in installation, testing, commissioning, and servicing of LV and MV motors
- Hands-on expertise in electro-mechanical troubleshooting and motor alignment
- Proficient in ABB tools, software, and testing equipment
- Certified in ABB preventive maintenance (AMS/GBA/AMG, L3/L4) and general induction machines L3/L4
- Experience with synchronous motors and generators including commissioning and maintenance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis
- Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic
- Ability to travel and perform fieldwork under varied industrial conditions
- Strong client-facing skills with technical advisory experience
