Job description
Coverage needs at GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi drive this Secondary French Teacher position, stepping in on a substitute and cover basis rather than as a fixed daily assignment. The school blends an American curriculum with the IB continuum, so lessons need to fit an inquiry based approach that encourages creativity, curiosity and global mindedness. You'll plan and deliver engaging French lessons aligned with curriculum standards, adjusting for a secondary classroom that includes English Language Learners and gifted and talented students alike. Positive classroom culture matters as much as content here, with collaboration and student wellbeing built into how lessons get delivered day to day. Technology and fresh teaching approaches get used to keep learning experiences engaging even on short notice. Assessment happens through varied, authentic methods, with feedback given promptly enough to support ongoing student progress. Collaboration with colleagues extends beyond the classroom too, contributing to unit planning and curriculum development when covering assignments allow for it. Co-curricular and community programmes round out student life, and covering teachers are expected to take part where their schedule permits. A bachelor's degree in education or a subject related degree with a recognised teaching qualification in French is required, alongside the ability to inspire and motivate students through purposeful learning.
