Job description
Most weeks are spent at customer sites across the UAE, with occasional onshore, remote and offshore assignments and travel into the GCC, Middle East and EMEA when business needs it. Siemens Digital Industries needs this Senior Service Engineer in Abu Dhabi to keep PLC, HMI and SCADA systems running, particularly in water and wastewater plants. Hands-on work comes first, covering SIMATIC S7-300, S7-400/400H/400FH, S7-1200 and S7-1500 R/H, STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC and Siemens HMI/Comfort Panels. Breakdowns, shutdowns and outages call for independent diagnosis in live plants, from PLC logic and I/O to PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Industrial Ethernet and Modbus faults. Legacy and unfamiliar applications are common, so analysing and modifying existing programs is part of the job. Backups, restores, hardware replacement, recommissioning and lifecycle upgrades and migrations also fall to you. Instrumentation knowledge matters, including electromagnetic flowmeters such as Siemens SITRANS MAG, along with pumps, valves, interlocks and remote stations. Clear service reports close out every intervention, and junior engineers will look to you for guidance. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automation/Control or Instrumentation Engineering, preferably 5+ years of hands-on Siemens automation service experience and a valid UAE driving licence are required.

Key responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and breakdown support for Siemens PLC, HMI and SCADA systems
- Diagnose PLC hardware and software, I/O, HMI/SCADA, industrial communication, instrumentation and electrical/control interface faults
- Service SIMATIC S7-300, S7-400/400H/400FH, S7-1200, S7-1500 R/H and S7 Safety Systems using STEP 7, TIA Portal and WinCC
- Analyse and modify existing, legacy and unfamiliar PLC/HMI applications
- Commission, recommission, functionally test and recover systems after approved software modifications
- Prepare, verify and restore PLC/HMI/SCADA software backups and carry out hardware replacement
- Upgrade and migrate installed Siemens automation systems across their lifecycle
- Troubleshoot PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Industrial Ethernet, Modbus and related communication interfaces
- Trace interactions between PLC/SCADA systems, field instrumentation, control loops, motors and valves
- Investigate recurring failures, identify root causes and recommend corrective or preventive actions
- Write clear technical service reports covering findings, actions, recommendations and outstanding risks
- Coordinate with customers, internal engineering teams, OEMs and other stakeholders
- Handle plant breakdowns, shutdowns, outages and time-critical interventions independently
- Follow HSE, cybersecurity, change-control and customer site procedures
- Guide junior engineers when required
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automation/Control or Instrumentation Engineering
- Bring preferably 5+ years of industrial automation or service engineering experience with significant hands-on Siemens PLC/HMI/SCADA exposure
- Demonstrate practical capability with SIMATIC S7, STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC and Siemens HMI/Comfort Panels
- Apply practical troubleshooting knowledge of PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP/PA, Modbus TCP/RTU and OPC/OPC UA
- Show experience in water and wastewater treatment, pumping stations, desalination or utility water systems (strongly preferred)
- Calibrate, configure and troubleshoot flow, pressure, level and temperature instrumentation, including electromagnetic flowmeters
- Travel extensively within the UAE and to GCC, Middle East and EMEA sites, including offshore assignments
- Possess a valid UAE driving licence
- Offer PCS 7, ESD and F&G, or OT cybersecurity experience such as ISA/IEC 62443 (an advantage)
