Job description
The Financial Controller for InterSystems in Dubai is responsible for overseeing the finance function for the Middle East branches, including UAE and KSA. This role ensures the provision of timely, accurate, and professional financial information to corporate management, country managers, and relevant taxation authorities. The Controller maintains accounting records in compliance with company policies and accounting standards, implements and monitors internal control procedures, and collaborates closely with managers to provide interpretation and analysis of monthly results. The position is accountable for producing timely monthly and annual financial statements, maintaining revenue and expense forecasts, preparing project-specific P&Ls, and ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliations. The Controller manages cash flow, monitors compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, coordinates with external accountants, auditors, and payroll providers, and ensures proper reporting of VAT and WHT. The role requires leading, training, and motivating the finance team while continuously improving processes and ensuring financial and operational excellence in a fast-paced, multi-currency environment. The post-holder must possess strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in English and Arabic.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting processes including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of transactions
- Implement and maintain internal control procedures across UAE and KSA offices
- Collaborate with managers to review monthly results, providing support and explanations to ensure understanding and actionable insights
- Provide timely and accurate financial information to tax advisors and ensure all compliance requirements are met
- Develop and maintain revenue and expense forecasts, as well as annual budgets for the Middle East branches
- Prepare and update monthly project P&Ls for selected implementation projects and ensure proper revenue recognition schedules
- Generate monthly and annual financial statements, performing variance analysis and providing interpretation to management
- Ensure timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolution of discrepancies
- Provide regular cash flow forecasts and manage local cash flow effectively
- Review all expense reports for compliance with company policies and VAT or other tax regulations
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and attorneys on accounting, tax, and regulatory matters
- Ensure internal accounting systems reconcile with statutory records maintained by third-party service providers
- Coordinate with outside payroll service providers on payroll and payroll tax matters
- Prepare and file monthly and quarterly VAT and WHT returns
- Oversee local risk management related to financial operations
- Respond to ad hoc management requests and special projects as assigned
- Recommend improvements to systems, procedures, and accounting processes to the International Controller
- Support other InterSystems branches as needed and provide guidance on standard accounting and business practices
- Manage, train, and motivate finance team members reporting directly to the Controller
Experience & skills
- 10–15 years of experience in a financial controller or senior finance role, preferably in multinational or multi-currency environments
- Qualified accountant with knowledge of US GAAP or International GAAP
- Proven experience with financial accounting, reporting, and analysis
- Strong understanding of multi-currency accounting systems and practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software
- Experience managing a finance team including training, mentoring, and performance management
- Ability to prepare, review, and interpret financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and project-specific P&Ls
- Knowledge of VAT, WHT, and other local taxation compliance requirements in the UAE and KSA
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Effective communication skills in English and Arabic for internal and external stakeholders
