Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, integrating, documenting, verifying, and maintaining embedded software for complex weapon and munition systems within a safety-critical defense environment. Working closely with systems engineers, product safety specialists, and verification teams, the role spans the complete Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from software requirements elicitation, analysis, architecture definition, implementation, integration, verification, validation, release, and lifecycle support. The position develops robust embedded software architectures that satisfy functionality, performance, reliability, and safety requirements while maintaining full traceability between requirements, design, implementation, and testing. Responsibilities include producing formal engineering documentation including Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), Interface Control Documents (ICD), Software Design Descriptions (SDD), Verification Description Documents (VDD), test specifications, verification reports, and engineering documentation. The role performs comprehensive verification and validation activities, automated testing, laboratory testing, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting while ensuring compliance with engineering processes, quality standards, and applicable regulations. The engineer manages software configuration, version control using Git or SVN, and software traceability while identifying, assessing, and mitigating software safety risks. The role contributes to technical reviews, approves engineering deliverables where authorized, and supports delivery of high-integrity software within agreed timelines and budgets. The position requires strong expertise in embedded C/C++, embedded processors, microcontrollers, UART, SPI, I²C, MIL-STD-1553 communication interfaces, software configuration management, technical documentation, and software engineering best practices. Preferred expertise includes experience within defense, aerospace, automotive, or other regulated safety-critical industries, familiarity with DO-178B/C, MIL-STD-498, MIL-STD-882, MATLAB/Simulink, modelling and simulation environments, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), requirements management tools such as DOORS and JAMA, static analysis using PC-Lint, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and mentoring engineering teams.
